Medical malpractice case awards man $4.2 million

Health care professionals in Tennessee do everything to ensure their patients receive the best medical care they can provide. Unfortunately, accidents can occur that sometimes result in the patient being injured or their condition worsening. When this happens due to the medical professional's negligence, the patient often seeks to file a medical malpractice claim.

A court out of state recently awarded an individual $4.2 million for a serious injury that occurred as a result of a medical malpractice suit. As a result of his doctor's misdiagnosis, the man suffered an injury during a surgery. According to the lawsuit, the man's left shoulder was injured and was rendered unusable after his surgeon damaged his spinal accessory nerve.

The resulting damage left the patient with a multitude of very serious side effects, including nerve palsy, which means that the afflicted individual has an inability to extend his or her arm or raise it above his or her head. The man's left shoulder was permanently disfigured as a result of the operation as well, and he is unable to use his left arm. According to the claim, the man alleged that if his doctor had performed a correct diagnosis, the surgery would never have occurred.

In the state of Tennessee, when an individual is injured due to the apparent negligence of his or her health care professional, they are entitled to file a medical malpractice suit. When the suit is successfully navigated, it can help with lost pay, medical bills and pain and suffering. It can also help to ensure that a similar mistake does not happen again to another patient. An experienced attorney who is familiar with medical malpractice claims is often consulted to help establish whether a viable case exists as well as offer ongoing guidance and support throughout the claims process.
