Fatal auto accident claims the life of 20-year-old woman

A terrifying auto collision happened on I-65 in Nashville earlier this week, and a 20-year-old woman is dead because of it. Authorities shut down the interstate for over three hours while cleaning up and investigating the crash.

The crash, which happened at approximately 6 a.m. last Tuesday morning, involved a single vehicle -- a Ford Taurus -- operated by an 18-year-old man. The woman who died was among four passengers riding in the vehicle. No one else in the car suffered injury.

According to police, the driver lost control of the car after he steered clockwise, which caused the car to drive off the interstate and onto an embankment. It then rolled multiple time back onto the road. While the car was rolling, the young woman was ejected from the vehicle.

Emergency responders arrived on scene following the crash. Although they rushed the young woman to a nearby hospital, doctors were unable to save her. She later succumbed to her injuries at the medical facility.

Police do not suspect that the driver was intoxicated by drugs or alcohol. Authorities have not indicated whether the young man may have been distracted at the time of the collision, or if he had been using a cellphone.

A lot of questions remain following this fatal accident. However, police and investigators may be able to piece together a clearer picture what happened after speaking with the other occupants of the car. Depending on the results of the investigation, family members of the deceased young woman may wish to talk with a personal injury lawyer about the possibility of holding the driver financially responsible for wrongful death damages associated with the loss of their loved one.
