In the event of a passenger vehicle's brakes malfunctioning, the resultant damage can be significant. However, given the immense size and mass of any sort of truck, when truck brakes fail and truck accidents occur, the outcome can be catastrophic. A recent truck accident in Tennessee in which this occurred luckily ended much better than is often the case.

The accident happened in Knoxville during the early part of July. According to the preliminary investigation, a dump truck driven by a 44-year-old man was traveling on a downhill portion of a road toward an intersection. The brakes went out, which caused the driver to run a red light at the intersection.

The Knoxville Police Department's preliminary investigation concluded that the truck went through the intersection and collided with a small SUV before it hit the rear wall of a business and came to a complete stop. The driver of the SUV, a 40-year-old woman, was extricated from her vehicle and taken to a local medical center. The driver of the truck received numerous citations.

The injured woman likely has the right to pursue a personal injury claim in a Tennessee civil court against the driver and the owner of the truck. A successfully navigated lawsuit, based upon evidence of negligence, could result in a monetary judgment. Any damages recovered can help assuage some of the financial matters that are often associated with the result of truck accidents. An experienced personal injury lawyer can help establish whether a viable claim exists as well as provide ongoing support in preparing and litigating any claim filed.
