Recent Tennessee car accidents: Man killed, 6 children injured

Many Tennessee residents who have been in a car accident will attest to experiencing the sensation of time slowing down. In all reality, though, car accidents happen in the blink of an eye. When they occur, the extent of damage ranges from minor to, in the unfortunate case, extremely serious and, in this case, fatal.

A recent car accident took the life of a man and injured six children, according to officials. It took place on a recent Wednesday in Nashville around 4 p.m. The Nolensville Pike on which it occurred was closed for four hours while officials investigated.

According to the authorities, a 49-year-old man was driving a van with six children as passengers, who were aged nine to 14 -- three of them were his daughters, while the other three were his nephews. A 22-year-old man driving an SUV reportedly swerved out of the way of a vehicle that had crossed over into his lane, which caused him to cross over the grass median and crash head-on with the van. The van's driver died at the scene of the accident, but the remainder of the van's passengers were rushed to a local medical center and are all listed in stable condition.

When individuals in Tennessee are involved in car accidents, they often face serious injuries. Typically, they seek to file a personal injury claim against the other driver to recoup some of the financial setbacks encountered as a result of the accident; this can include current and future medical bills as well as lost pay. Before they can make a claim, negligence on the part of the other driver must be proved before the court will consider awarding any damages to the victim. Those involved in car accidents typically consult an experienced personal injury attorney to assess whether or not they have a valid claim.
