Family of woman killed in accident may seek wrongful death claim

One out-of-state woman was killed and another was injured in a recent two-car accident. The accident occurred in Heatham County on a recent Monday morning in February, authorities say. When a Tennessee individual is the victim of a car accident due to another driver's negligence, the victim's family is typically entitled to file a wrongful death claim in relation to the accident.

The accident occurred around 8:20 a.m. on Interstate 24. According to the accident report, a car driven by a woman slowed down as a result of heavy traffic on the interstate. As she slowed down, another car rear-ended her vehicle.

After the collision, the first vehicle came to a stop on the interstate's left side, resting against a guardrail. The second vehicle came to a stop on the other side of the road in the grass. The driver of the first vehicle died as a result of her injuries suffered in the crash. The other driver was taken to a Nashville hospital, where her condition is currently unknown. The interstate's eastbound lanes were closed for hours while traffic was diverted.

The accident is currently still under investigation. Although it is not currently clear what caused the second vehicle to rear-end the first vehicle at such a high rate of speed, the family of the victim will most likely be entitled to file a wrongful death claim in relation to the accident. Successfully filed in a Tennessee civil court, a wrongful death claim can help lessen some of the financial burdens usually associated with similar fatal accidents, such as burial costs and hospital bills. The family in this case will most likely choose to consult an experienced personal injury attorney to assist them with this process.
