Nursing home neglect in Tennessee

As the elderly population in Tennessee continues to grow, the number of people in nursing homes is also increasing. Unfortunately, this means that instances of nursing home abuse are growing too. In fact, some statistics say that one out of every 10 individuals living in a nursing home will experience nursing home abuse every year.

Nursing home abuse and neglect can range in its seriousness. Perhaps it simply involves a senior not getting a bath when he or she is supposed to, which would dramatically increase the individual's quality of life but may not be outwardly noticeable in terms of injuries and physical problems that result. Or, the abuse could be more severe, and involve a senior not getting sufficient attention from a doctor, not having his or her bed sores monitored and attended to or not being fed a balanced diet at regular intervals. It can even involve a senior being physically or sexually abused.

The more severe forms of nursing home abuse and nursing home neglect will often be gravely visible in the patient due to the severe injuries and/or illnesses that result. Also, seniors who have the mental faculties to do so may complain about the abuse to anyone willing to listen. Never dismiss a nursing home resident's complaints, and always follow through with an investigation into those complaints until the issues are resolved.
